Standards
and Policies
St. Alphonsus/St. Patrick School upholds fully to the standards
and policies established by the Archdiocese of Chicago, the Office of Catholic
Schools, and the Illinois State Board of Education. All administrators and
teachers hold state certificates, and several hold M.A. degrees. The teaching
staff has contractual provision for ongoing professional growth. The school is
fully certified by both the State of Illinois and the Archdiocese of Chicago.
Curriculum
Curriculum development is an ongoing process in our school.
Religion is an integrated subject taught daily at all grade levels. Christian
social principles permeate the entire day. Strong emphasis is given to the
basic core subjects. Materials and textbooks are continually updated.
Technology
The multiple computer labs expose the children to hands-on computer
applications. The regular upgrading of technology, internet access and e-mail
continue to be a goal at all curriculum levels. Every classroom contains a
Internet connected current computer and printer to reinforce skills in every
subject area.
Testing
Students in grades 3-7 take the Terra Nova Standardized Achievement Test each
spring. Our test scores have been consistently outstanding according to
national regional norms.
Discipline
Growth in Christian living calls for a developing sense of inner discipline and
personal responsibility rather than simply responding obediently to outer
controls. Each student will be held accountable for his/her behavior.
Occasions of discipline then are to be seen as times of growth, of viewing
alternatives, and of accepting responsibility for one’s actions. Cooperation
between home and school is essential to the growth of each individual.
Faith
Life
Every school day begins the entire school community coming together for morning
prayer. Weekly prayer services and liturgical celebrations involve students in
planning and participation in prayer, Scripture and song. Special liturgies
are often centered around Feast Days and important Church events including Ash
Wednesday, All Saints Day, and May Crowning, as well as the yearly religious
theme. Students receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation regularly, and
participate in sacramental preparation. All children are expected to
participate in the prayer life of our school community.
Extracurricular Activities
St. Al’s/St. Pat’s offers varied activities for students including Student
Council, Drama Club, Band, Chorus, Yearbook Club, etc. We have a strong
athletic program, facilitated by our Athletic Association, beginning in grade 4
which includes basketball, volleyball and cheerleading.

PHILOSOPHY AND
VISION
St. Alphonsus/St.
Patrick Catholic School is a direct extension of two Lemont Parishes, following
the directive “To Teach as Jesus Did”. Our primary mission is to teach the
truth about ourselves and our world based upon scripture, Catholic rituals and
tradition, and the enfolding understanding of the revelation of God’s spirit,
while building the academic skills and knowledge needed in today’s technological
world.
Each child is treated with respect, acknowledging his/her uniqueness and
importance in God’s eyes. Our school supports and assists parents in their
primary responsibility as role models and educational examples for their
children. Parental involvement is valued as families assist our professional
faculty and staff in sound educational methods throughout our full curriculum.
Our school stands for educational and spiritual excellence and service to
others.
Bus Service
Lemont School District #113A provides busing for students who live within its
boundaries.
Finances
St. Alphonsus/St. Patrick School is a ministry of the Archdiocese of Chicago and
is financed by tuition, fundraising, and the contributions from St. Alphonsus
and St. Patrick parishes. Students are subsidized by the respective parishes in
which their families are registered and active members. Family rates are
provided for 2 or more children. Other local parishes may assist in providing
subsidy to attend our school.
Millennium Grant Program
Tuition assistance is available to existing families through the Millennium
Grant Program. A completed confidential application form is required to be
considered for the grant.
Enrollment/Registration
There is no discrimination in enrollment or educational practices according to
race, gender, national and ethnic origin. Enrollment preference is given to
registered, active members of the supporting parishes, St. Alphonsus and St.
Patrick.
